I'm typically hired as a remote contract consultant, augmenting internal teams from concept through development. While my background is in traditional print and corporate identity, my focus has been interactive design since 1996. In that time, I've completed over 90 interactive projects for companies including Google, Wells Fargo, Hotwire, Innovacom (France Telecom), Accesso, Clarizen, and Cheskin.
Prior to opening the doors of my own studio in 2001, I was a managing director at Scient, leading the customer experience teams on some of the consultancy's largest projects.

The Experience Engine had proven apps available for several theme parks. But it was time to make improvements and move from multiple apps to a mobile solution that could scale further, as well as allow expansion into the hospitality sector. Lessons from earlier deployments were combined with customer feedback to help articulate the strategy.
Clarizen's project collaboration app long ago proved itself in the enterprise SaaS market. But it was built for the desktop, and customers demanded a mobile version. While 'mobile first' is critical in business today, it's not always possible. In order to design the experience for mobile, the desktop app was assessed, and customers were interviewed to inform the mobile strategy, IA, and structure.
We designed the first prototype from only a few slides and quite a few 'what if' discussions. We listened to what consumers had to say about that first release, what they liked and didn't like. It allowed us to quickly move into a second release that brought with it themes, image sharing, and what was quickly becoming outstanding audio quality.
The experience strategy focused on getting customers to the help they needed, when they needed it. And assisting new users, experienced users, and users with a problem - all with a single system that can scale for a huge variety of products - isn't as easy as it sounds. An intentions-based structure was deployed and rigorously tested with astonishingly positive results.
